So called “secondary” equipment is firmly established in Europe as a key requirement for the cost effective production of a wide range of devices essential for the “digitisation” of our businesses and homes. Mostly based on 200mm wafers, this increasingly important range of products can only be viable if produced at very low cost and with flexible production techniques.
However, major challenges face this important sector. As 200mm production increases, the “donor” tools required are increasingly in short supply. Increasingly sophisticated devices require the development of new processing techniques on older machines. Practically, differing end-of-life scenarios create parts shortages and the engineering talent required for all this is becoming scarce.
New ways must be found to continue to support this vital sector and this session will discuss the challenges and try and suggest ways of moving forward.
To encourage ongoing interactive debate, speakers will remain at the end of the session and a “networking” and discussion social event will follow, with light refreshments and drinks available.
This session is part of the activities of SEMI Secondary Equipment and Applications special interest group – click further for further information on this group and how to get involved.
