With the mobility era, most services are moving to the cloud. From email and files sharing to applications such as car sharing and fitness tracking, more computing functions are relying on efficient and high-speed data centers. Optical and photonic technology provides the fast transmission speeds requested by the next generation data centers. Silicon photonics is emerging as a game-changing technology that allows implementing optical systems in a very compact footprint. It is leveraged by the established CMOS technology and enables low cost manufacturing of photonic and opto-electronic modules for a wide range of applications such as datacom, consumer appliances, sensing, bio-medical and defense.
The presentations in this session will describe various photonics technologies and applications towards high-speed communication systems.
